New Year’s Message from President of NIAD-UE

                                                                                     January 4, 2016

   Happy New Year!
I hope that this year will be a wonderful year for you.

This year is going to be a very important year for NIAD-UE, one marking a
new start for us. As already announced, NIAD-UE will merge with the
Center for National University Finance and Management (CUFM), forming
the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of
Higher Education (NIAD-QE) on April 1, 2016.

The new institution will take over NIAD-UE’s mission including evaluation
and accreditation of higher education, awarding of academic degrees,
collaboration in quality assurance, and the research activities related to these
as well as the work conducted by CUFM, including providing loans and grants
for facilities expenses of higher education institutions.

At present, we are working with CUFM to establish a new organization so
that from April 1 NIAD-QE can carry out these operations steadily, effectively,
and efficiently, as in the past, and in order to create synergy that takes
advantage of the experience and strengths of both organizations, with the aim
of enhancing our capacity to increase the quality of higher education.

As the environment surrounding higher education in Japan undergoes
rapid change, including globalization and the university diversification, the
expectations of and roles played by university support organizations such as
NIAD-UE, CUFM, and the new institution, have been growing in recent

The faculty and staff of NIAD-UE are determined to make greater, unified
exertions to contribute to the further development of higher education. We
look forward to your continued understanding of and cooperation in our
